MASSAGE OFFERINGS

Massage therapies tailored to your needs

Kůra Růka offers on-site and in-home Ayurvedic Yoga Massages and Dynamic Thai Massages aiming to accommodate the needs of each individual holistically. Therapies are also designed to be delivered within hotels, spas, retreat centers, and other wellness-related spaces and facilities in a flexible fashion. They are performed on a mat placed on the floor to promote free movement and flow, with each session typically taking 2 hours to complete.

AYURVEDIC YOGA MASSAGE

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage is a holistic bodywork originally developed by Master Kusum Modak in Pune, India in the early 1980s. Influenced by traditional Ayurvedic massage therapy (Vasudev Limaye) and haṭha yoga (B. K. S. Iyengar), this unique method dynamically and synergistically combines deep tissue oil massage with yoga-based assisted stretching and synchronized breathwork. This type of massage allows one to experience a deep sense of openness and well-being on a physical, psychological, and emotional level through the unlocking of the healing power of conscious touch.

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage is particularly suitable for individuals that:

  • Wish to release a wide range of tensions
  • Wish to balance and harmonize their energy levels holistically from an ayurvedic perspective (doshas, chakras, prana, agni)
  • Are looking to improve their respiratory patterns
  • Are looking to go deeper into their healing journey
  • Would like to experience a unique type of massage

Raphaël is a very dedicated and professional massage therapist. His calming and reassuring presence contribute to harmonious and trustworthy release during a massage treatment with him. His hands are attentive and present at all times during his massages which allow for a completely relaxing and revitalizing experience. I highly recommend him without hesitation.

Note

  • Kůra Růka strives to use organic, unrefined, cold-pressed sesame oil and organic calamus powder carefully selected from trusted sources. To better serve its clients, Kůra Růka’s therapist eventually aims to grow and produce its own sesame (oil) and calamus (powder) within a permaculture system.
  • In some cases, Raphaël may use other types of oil such as grapeseed or almond oil as an alternative.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Ayurvedic Yoga Massage performed?

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage is traditionally performed on the floor using a wide, thin yet comfortable mattress. The technique involves a synergistic use of deep tissue oil massage, passive stretches, and synchronized breathwork.

How do I need to prepare myself?

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage being an oil massage, you will receive your massage while keeping your bottom undergarment. In order to preserve your intimacy and ensure that is no indecent exposure, the body parts that are not worked on will be covered accordingly. All pieces of jewelry should be removed prior to the session, as well as any glasses or contact lenses. Hair must be attached to better facilitate the access to your neck. In order to fully appreciate the benefits of the massage, it is recommended not to eat at least 2 hours prior to the session. Taking a shower is also advisable.

Does Ayurvedic Yoga Massage use a lot of oil?

Unlike most of the other types of Ayurvedic massages that are known to use an important amount of oil, Ayurvedic Yoga Massage has been designed to limit its use and is only applied sparingly. All oils used (grapeseed or almond) are organic. They are nourishing, relaxing, and do not leave any greasy residues, which allows you to get dressed and carry on with your day. Raphaël will also offer you the possibility to bring your own oil if you wish to do so.

How long does a regular Ayurvedic Yoga Massage last for?

Most of the Ayurvedic Yoga Massage sessions last around 2 hours. As you fall into a deep state of relaxation, sense of time is easily lost. What appears to be a long massage at first on paper will in reality be a pleasant experience, leaving you with a deep sense of well-being.

Are there any contraindications?

As of today, Kůra Růka is unfortunately not in a position to offer massage therapy to pregnant women, individuals with cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, diabetes, active cancer, circulatory and coagulation disorders, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, infectious diseases, or severe disabilities. In case of arthritis, inflamed muscle, muscle tear, bone fracture, sprain, tendinitis, or varices, the massage session will be adapted accordingly.

What should I do after a massage session?

In order for your body to better assimilate the benefits of Ayurvedic Yoga Massage, here are some recommendations to follow:

  • You may experience body aches in the next 48 hours, which is a normal reaction from the body. Tension accumulated for long periods of time indeed releases toxins when massaged. Feel free to move your body the day after your session: light yoga, walks in nature, and swimming are particularly suitable activities.
  • Stay well hydrated during the next two days to reduce the risk of inflammation and to balance your body fluids.
  • If possible, do not go to bed at late hours and maintain a regular sleeping schedule.
Do you offer in-home massages?

Yes, Kůra Růka offers in-home massages limited to a specific area of intervention. Please contact Raphaël for more information.

DYNAMIC THAI MASSAGE

Being a clothed massage technique and requiring no oil, Dynamic Thai Massage (also called Rocking Thai Massage) is a unique flavor of Thai massage involving gentle rocking and repetitive (at times continuous), harmonious movements, dynamic stretches, acupressure, joint mobilization and traction of different body parts. Inspired by Ajanh Chaiyuth Priyasith, one of the most prominent traditional Thai massage teachers of the 20th century from Chiang Mai, this massage therapy is a true meditation in movement that allows one to restore mobility and experience a profound sense of relaxation on a physical and psychological level by engaging the parasympathetic nervous system through a listening, kind, and grounded touch.

Dynamic Thai Massage is particularly suitable for individuals that:

  • Struggle to relax and sleep
  • Wish to bring back their mind and body into harmony by releasing a wide range of blockages
  • Have a limited range of motion
  • Are new to massage therapies
  • Wish to experience a more gentle and meditative type of Thai massage
